I had a first date last night. Really (and I know I've been boring lately and this isn't going to help), there's nothing to write about. It's one of those things were things are just a little different when you're drunk vs when you're sober. When I was drunk, he seemed really cool, interesting, funny and charming. When I was sober, he was kind of a stereotypical frat guy. Heh.
Maybe I'm just getting too old to pick up people at clubs and bars. Drunk me still acts 22 years old sometimes, while sober me is a little more "my age", I guess. I'd be friends with Frat Guy but I wouldn't want to date him. Or maybe it's because the back of my mind was comparing Frat Guy to Adrian and all the ways this guy was sooo not him.
Now, it wasn't a bad date, so to speak, there just wasn't really any connection there. He was nice but it was kind of awkward. I mean, I talk to people all the time (it's kind of what stylists do). I can have great conversations with anyone and can usually find some kind of something to chat about. But talking to this guy was kind of... I really don't know how to describe it. We had literally nothing to talk about.
In keeping with my whole resolution of accepting things I can't change and making the best of it, I decided that even though there was no love connection there to go ahead and make the best of it. We had a pretty good time. We ended up just kind of hanging out in the Gayborhood for a few hours before parting ways. I suppose it was something to do, which is cool. And I like meeting people so that was kind of interesting.
Today, after work, I met up with my friend Bren for a late lunch and to be his shopping buddy. Apparently he doesn't work around enough paint fumes and heavy objects and decided he wanted to redecorate his house (again). I know J's got to be used to it by now but I distinctly remember one of the first times Bren got it in his head to redecorate and J came home from work to see the house completely different. I'm sure it blew his little mind how fast Bren works. ;) But Bren is an absolute genius with that stuff. I love having talented friends - I always get Bren to decorate my apartments every time I move. Hehe.
Anyway, I digress. We just picked up some lamps and window treatments and things and hung out for a while. I hadn't hung out solo with Bren for a while, it was really fun to have a great chat about whatever without other friends or SO's around. I always love it when he makes some snide comment because he's usually so sweet and so hearing him be snarky always makes me laugh my ass off. Not to mention I just love listening to Bren talk - he's from upstate New York originally, so even though he's lived in Dallas for nearly his whole life, he's still got a little bit of the North East dialect going sometimes. Always refreshing, especially considering most of us all sound like we're Texan and can't get away from it. ;)
Well, I suppose I ought to go ahead and wrap this one up. I've got some errands to run tomorrow and I'm working tomorrow night so it's time for me to get some sleep. Hope everyone's having a nice night.
