Not Much...

Well, I suppose that didn't work out exactly how I was wanting it to.

I had a first date last night.  Really (and I know I've been boring lately and this isn't going to help), there's nothing to write about.  It's one of those things were things are just a little different when you're drunk vs when you're sober.  When I was drunk, he seemed really cool, interesting, funny and charming.  When I was sober, he was kind of a stereotypical frat guy.  Heh.

Maybe I'm just getting too old to pick up people at clubs and bars.  Drunk me still acts 22 years old sometimes, while sober me is a little more "my age", I guess.  I'd be friends with Frat Guy but I wouldn't want to date him.  Or maybe it's because the back of my mind was comparing Frat Guy to Adrian and all the ways this guy was sooo not him.

Now, it wasn't a bad date, so to speak, there just wasn't really any connection there.  He was nice but it was kind of awkward.  I mean, I talk to people all the time (it's kind of what stylists do).  I can have great conversations with anyone and can usually find some kind of something to chat about.  But talking to this guy was kind of... I really don't know how to describe it.  We had literally nothing to talk about.

In keeping with my whole resolution of accepting things I can't change and making the best of it, I decided that even though there was no love connection there to go ahead and make the best of it.  We had a pretty good time.  We ended up just kind of hanging out in the Gayborhood for a few hours before parting ways.  I suppose it was something to do, which is cool.  And I like meeting people so that was kind of interesting.

Today, after work, I met up with my friend Bren for a late lunch and to be his shopping buddy.  Apparently he doesn't work around enough paint fumes and heavy objects and decided he wanted to redecorate his house (again).  I know J's got to be used to it by now but I distinctly remember one of the first times Bren got it in his head to redecorate and J came home from work to see the house completely different.  I'm sure it blew his little mind how fast Bren works. ;) But Bren is an absolute genius with that stuff.  I love having talented friends - I always get Bren to decorate my apartments every time I move.  Hehe.

Anyway, I digress.  We just picked up some lamps and window treatments and things and hung out for a while.  I hadn't hung out solo with Bren for a while, it was really fun to have a great chat about whatever without other friends or SO's around.  I always love it when he makes some snide comment because he's usually so sweet and so hearing him be snarky always makes me laugh my ass off.  Not to mention I just love listening to Bren talk - he's from upstate New York originally, so even though he's lived in Dallas for nearly his whole life, he's still got a little bit of the North East dialect going sometimes.  Always refreshing, especially considering most of us all sound like we're Texan and can't get away from it. ;)

Well, I suppose I ought to go ahead and wrap this one up.  I've got some errands to run tomorrow and I'm working tomorrow night so it's time for me to get some sleep.  Hope everyone's having a nice night.

Sorry it's been a few days since I've updated everyone.  With LJ being all dodgy I decided to hold off until the issue was resolved - I didn't really want to type up anything and then lose it or something, that'd be a pain.

Honestly, not a ton has been going on lately.  I'm done with my little mini-vacation from work for the holidays, so I'm kind of getting back into the groove again for 2013.  So Wednesday I just went to work and then came home and vegged out, and today (well, it's after midnight now so I guess yesterday) I went to work, then went to yoga and came home to veg out.

I have become increasingly boring.  Hahaha.

Hopefully after tomorrow night (well, technically tonight) I'll have more interesting stuff to talk about.  I got a phone number last weekend and this weekend I've got a date!  I'm really excited, it's been a while and I think it'll be great!  If not, hey, I've got LJ fodder either way ;)

Anyway, I'm boring as hell so I'll leave you all to it.  I hope everyone's had a lovely week so far :D

New Years Resolutions.

It's just before 5 in the morning, as of the beginning of this post.  Since I'm still awake (and currently sober) I figure I may as well go ahead and write this stuff down before I forget about it after falling asleep.  I've hijacked Bren's laptop because I really don't feel like typing anything lengthy on my phone right now ;)  He's asleep - what he doesn't know won't hurt him.

We all decided to just kind of stay over at Bren and J's today, mostly because nearly everyone was wasted and those who weren't didn't have any desire to drive tonight.  I wasn't trashed but I was drunk enough to park my backside in the chaise and not even think about coming home until sometime later today.  Bren and J have a big enough place - while we don't all have beds we all have somewhere cozy to curl up - so it worked out great.  I'm not the only one still awake - Addy, Rikki, Amber and Scott are all still up - but it's wound down to the point where everyone up's just kind of watching Law and Order SVU reruns and all of the others have retired for the night.

Our NYE parties tend to be more conversational than a particular theme or plan.  We just kind of talked about all of the memories from the past year and made fun of each other.  There was plenty of booze involved, of course. We toasted the new year at midnight with champagne and otherwise just kind of hung out and enjoyed each other's company.  Usually on New Year's Day we all have brunch (after everyone staggers out of their sleeping quarters) before parting ways, so I'm sure that'll be happening in a few hours.

One topic of conversation we always have over brunch (because by the time midnight rolls around, nearly everyone's too far gone to remember) is what our New Year's Resolutions are.  I really only have one big one: to accept things as they are and not dwell on things that I can't change, but to make the best of it.  Yeah, there are all the little ones that I'll probably forget about in a week, like cooking more or something, and there are the medium sized ones that will probably get a good level of effort put into them before it tapers off in about March, like calling my mother more often, but this year I'm really going to put my big one into practice.

You guys are welcome to hold me accountable.  If I start whining about anything, please bitchslap me.

Anyway, I ought to get in a couple hours of sleep before everyone starts waking up.  I hope those of you that went out to celebrate were safe, and those that stayed in had a nice evening.

Have I mentioned that my friends are insane?  I believe I have but allow me to reiterate: my friends are insane.  ;)

We all went over to Dakota's for lunch today.  And by "we all" I mean we had fourteen people crammed into a tiny one bedroom loft in the Design District.  So much fun, but we were practically sitting on eachother's laps in there.  There's a reason why we usually have our get-togethers at Jacob and Addison's place or Bren and J's place - they have actual houses in the suburbs and aren't trying to cram everyone inside an apartment or something.

I adore Dakota, though.  I know I've said this before, but Dakota's the mean girl of the group and totally loves to be snarky about pretty much everything.  Not to mention the fact that he's kind of the "clothes guy" of the group, and he will let you know if he is not a fan of what you're wearing.  He regularly says Bren dresses like a gay lumberjack and that Addison looks like a half-assed drag queen after a night out (no makeup or hair, but Addy does kind of dress like a teenage girl sometimes...  I suppose he's still young enough to get away with it but maybe we ought to introduce him to menswear sometime).

I believe I've told you all that Bren is a vegetarian and won't eat anything that at one time had a face. Dakota, in all his Dakota Glory, decided it would be hilarious to make sure there were foods that were so obviously animals it was almost indecent.  Like, calamari - not the rings of squid that look kind of like onion rings, oh no - I'm talking like Cthulhu spawn deep fried and served with aioli and marinara.

Yeah, I laughed my ass off.

It's a good thing Bren isn't easily offended and that he's known Dakota forever.  I'm sure he was expecting Dakota to be like that, so he just kind of turned away and didn't look at it.  Oh my god it was funny.

Tomorrow evening we'll all be over at Bren and J's.  I'm not really sure what the actual plan is other than toast the end of 2012 and welcome 2013, pretty much like we always do.  Good times.

This Weekend.

Last night was phenonomal.  I went out dancing, which is something I haven't done in a while.  Just club dancing, nothing fancy or anything.  Maybe one of these days I'll learn how to tango or something, heh.  Our clubs are great - they're really the only half decent clubs in the area.  Of course, it's a rampant epidemic that clubs play bad dance remixes of even worse songs on a regular basis - but that usually adds to the conversation, so it's all good.  And besides, after a few stiff drinks you kind of forget about anything but the bassline anyway.  Heh.

I thought about trying to find an acutal event or something to do, but decided I just wanted to go hang out and dance.  You know you've gone somewhere too many times when the bartenders start asking you where all your friends are, hahaha.  But it was fun flying solo, dancing with strangers and having a good time.  Honestly, it was kind of fun being there without my friend Rikki, who is a dancer - not because he intentionally shows us up but because he just does anyway.  Not to mention the fact that he's cute as a button and it's damn near impossible to chat people up when he's around.  ;)

I did get a phone number. >:D

Today I coerced my friend Amber to finally get a haircut.  It had grown to about mid-back and had lost most of it's original shape and style (her hair grows soooo fast, and for being friends with a professional stylist it's amazing she gets away with letting it go as long as it does... facepalm...).  We chopped it OFF.  Super cute.  Hopefully I'll be able to force her to maintain it this time around (doubt it ;) ).  We also went shopping, which is always fun.  Didn't really get much, just kind of rocked the Galleria for a while.  We, of course, had forgotten how absolutely insane the mall is this time of year, so fighting the crowds was a little trying but all in all, it was a good day.

Now I'm lounging with the dog and enjoying a merlot (the wine, not the monkey, hahaha).

Tomorrow, I'm supposed to go over to Dakota's for lunch.  I think everyone's going, which will be a blast.  Usually we have our group meals at Jacob's house because of the professional kitchen (and professional chef) but I think it'll be fun to do it at Dakota's instead this time around.  Truth be told if I knew Dakota was planning on cooking I'd be bringing some backup food just in case - I love him dearly but he can't cook to save his life, bless him.  But he's ordering something so it's safe.  Hehe.

So far, I'm having a pretty darn good weekend.  Hope everyone out in LJ-land is awesome :D

Dec. 28th, 2012

(no subject)

Just thought I'd take a moment to say hello to everyone in LJ land, and welcome to all the new lovely folks that have added me over the past day or two.  Thanks for that, looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I'm nearly ready to leave.  I made a committment yesterday to get out and do something today, and that's precisely what I'm going to do.  Not really doing anything fancy or anything and don't really have an actual "plan", so to speak, but since it's just me going out by myself that doesn't matter, I can flit around the Gayborhood and find something fun to do, I'm sure.  Details of my excursion are sure to follow tomorrow. ;)

Anyway, below is a meme I ruthlessly stole.  Because, why not? ;)

Ruthlessly Stolen MemeCollapse )

That was fun.  Ok, time for me to do something with my hair and leave for uptown.  I'll chat with all of you lovely folks later :D

Dec. 27th, 2012

I'm slowly starting to remember what it was like to be single.  Unfortunately, I've been so well trained over the last year to be a complete homebody that I've realized that after work I just kind of come home and hang out with the dog - and while my dog is highly entertaining and very cuddly, she's just not quite cutting it.

So I am making a committment to go out and do something, ANYTHING, tomorrow night.  I'm sure someplace in the Gayborhood will be hopping, considering it's the last weekend before 2013.  I'll have to Google and see what's going on tomorrow.  I already know my friends are busy so I'll be totally flying solo, which sounds like fun... sounds a little like cruising, too, so there's that.  Heh.

Perhaps my getting out of the rut I've been in will prove to provide a more entertaining blog.  I know since I started back up again I haven't been the little ray of sunshine I was before and for that, I apologize.  One of my New Years' Resolutions this year is to be more accepting of things I cannot change, and I'm starting that a few days early.

Anyhow, I hope today found everyone well.  Have a fabulous night / day, lovelies!

I'm sitting in my apartment, freezing my ass off.   Well, actually, my apartment isn't really that cold, but I just got in from walking the dog and it's freezing out there.

Why am I walking the dog at 2:30am, you may ask?  Because she jumped on my face to wake me up.  Brat. I think I'm gonna have a shiner in the morning; she got me right below the left eye.  You wouldn't think a 17lb animal would cause damage, but owwie.

So now I'm wide awake.  Heh.  The dog, of course, is now asleep.  Sounds about right, doesn't it?

Too bad I'm alone right now. If someone else was over right now, I could put my ice cube toes on them to torture them!  Opportunity: missed.

(Kidding, kidding.)

Dec. 25th, 2012

There's about a half inch of Global Warming on the ground outside today!

Hahahaha.  We actually are having a White Christmas this year.  Not, like, a gorgeous, couple inch thick, pretty snow, mind - more of a wet, slushy, disgusting snow.  Heh.  A few years ago we had pretty snow on Christmas but this year it rained all morning and just started snowing a few hours ago, so it's just wet.

Here's hoping it doesn't decide to freeze over overnight.  It MIGHT, it'll be cold enough, but yesterday it was over 70 degrees so I'm sure the pavement isn't cold enough for any major hard freezing.  And if it is, I guess I'll just continue doing a bunch of nothing into tomorrow as well - I'm a wuss, I don't like driving in inclement weather and will avoid it whenever possible.

Last night was a blast.  It wasn't a big to-do or anything, but it was really nice to hang out with all of the most important people in my life right now.  We played poker and talked about all sorts of random stuff, and had wine and little hors d'oeuvres and things.  Still didn't really feel like a "holiday party", but it was really great nonetheless. :)

I'm looking forward to next Monday night.  We always have the best New Years' Eve parties.

Anyway, I think I'm going to make some hot cocoa and sit on the balcony for while and watch it snow.  Love you all lots!
